Don’t Close your Blinds

Ive seen this floating around the internet, and felt I should share this with you all.

The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were at war. My husband looked at our son and then looked at me. My husband and I were in the Army during the Gulf War and we would be honored to serve and defend our country again today. I knew that my husband would give him a good explanation. My husband thought for a few minutes and then told my son to go stand in our front living room window.
He said “Son, stand there and tell me what you see?”

“I see trees and cars and our neighbor’s houses.” he replied.

“OK, now I want you to pretend that our house and our yard is the United States of America and you are President Bush.”

Our son giggled and said “OK.”

“Now son, I want you to look out the window and pretend that every house and yard on this block is a different country” my husband said.

“OK Dad, I’m pretending.”

“Now I want you to stand there and look out the window and pretend you see Saddam come out of his house with his wife, he has her by the hair and is hitting her. You see her bleeding and crying. He hits her in the face, he throws her on the ground, then he starts to kick her to death. Their children run out and are afraid to stop him, they are screaming and crying, they are watching this but do nothing because they are kids and they are afraid of their father. You see all of this, son….what do you do?”

“What do you do son?”

“I’d call the police, Dad.”

“OK. Pretend that the police are the United Nations. They take your call. They listen to what you know and saw but they refuse to help. What do you do then son?”

“Dad………. but the police are supposed to help!” My son starts to whine.

“They don’t want to son, because they say that it is not their place or your place to get involved and that you should stay out of it,” my husband says.

“But Dad…he killed her!!” my son exclaims.

“I know he did…but the police tell you to stay out of it. Now I want you to look out that window and pretend you see our neighbor who you’re pretending is Saddam turn around and do the same thing to his children.”

“Daddy…he kills them?”

“Yes son, he does. What do you do?”

“Well, if the police don’t want to help, I will go and ask my next door neighbor to help me stop him.” our son says.

“Son, our next door neighbor sees what is happening and refuses to get involved as well. He refuses to open the door and help you stop him,” my husband says.

“But Dad, I NEED help!!! I can’t stop him by myself!!”

“WHAT DO YOU DO SON?” Our son starts to cry.

“OK, no one wants to help you, the man across the street saw you ask for help and saw that no one would help you stop him. He stands taller and puffs out his chest. Guess what he does next son?”

“What Daddy?”

“He walks across the street to the old ladies house and breaks down her door and drags her out, steals all her stuff and sets her house on fire and then…he kills her. He turns around and sees you standing in the window and laughs at you. WHAT DO YOU DO?”

“WHAT DO YOU DO?” Our son is crying and he looks down and he whispers,
“I’d close the blinds, Daddy.”

My husband looks at our son with tears in his eyes and asks him. “Why?”

“Because Daddy…..the police are supposed to help people who needs them…and they won’t help…. You always say that neighbors are supposed to HELP neighbors, but they won’t help either…they won’t help me stop him…I’m afraid….I can’t do it by myself Daddy…..I can’t look out my window and just watch him do all these terrible things and…and… nothing…so….I’m just going to close the blinds…. so I can’t see what he’s doing……..and I’m going to pretend that it is not happening.”

I start to cry. My husband looks at our nine year old son standing in the window, looking pitiful and ashamed at his answers to my husband’s
questions and he says…

“Yes, Daddy.”

“Open the blinds because that man…. he’s at your front door… “WHAT DO YOU DO?”

My son looks at his father, anger and defiance in his eyes. He balls up his tiny fists and looks his father square in the eyes, without hesitation he says: “I DEFEND MY FAMILY DAD!! I’M NOT GONNA LET HIM HURT MOMMY OR MY SISTER, DAD!!! I’M GONNA FIGHT HIM, DAD, I’M GONNA FIGHT HIM!!!!!”

I see a tear roll down my husband’s cheek and he grabs our son to his chest and hugs him tight, and says… “It’s too late to fight him, he’s too strong and he’s already at YOUR front door son… should have stopped him BEFORE he killed his wife, and his children and the old lady across the way. You have to do what’s right, even if you have to do it alone, before its too late.” my husband whispers. THAT scenario I just gave you is WHY we are at war with Iraq. When good men stand by and let evil happen son, THAT is the greatest atrocities in the world won’t affect him. “YOU MUST NEVER BE AFRAID TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT! EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT ALONE!” BE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! BE PROUD OF OUR TROOPS!! SUPPORT THEM!!! SUPPORT AMERICA SO THAT IN THE FUTURE OUR CHILDREN WILL NEVER HAVE TO CLOSE THEIR BLINDS…”

I dont think this could be any more true.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

It seems like every year people try to take Christ out of Christmas. What’s the point of Christmas, without Christ? Well their is no point in Christmas, without Christ. The whole reason we celebrate Christmas is because of the birth of Jesus Christ. Some stores are now replacing “Merry Christmas” with “Happy Holidays”. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m not going to go spend my money at a store that doesn’t even recognize the true reason we celebrate December 25th. I know some people don’t believe in Jesus Christ but that’s something for me to get to another day, but that’s no reason for them to try and take the holiday away from the rest of us. Something like 80% of the people in the U.S. claim to be Christians, if this is the case then why do we let these big name stores get away with things like this? Do a google news search for more info on what retailers are doing to try and take Christ out of Christmas.

When someone says Happy Holidays to you, don’t be afraid to say Merry Christmas right back.

Merry Christmas

New Work Photos

Northstar at Tahoe

I have added some new work photos to my gallery. These photos are of the new construction project going on at Northstar at Tahoe , a ski resort near Lake Tahoe in northern California. These photos were taken on the first real snow of the season. Me being from SoCal; I had a good time just standing out in the cold during my lunch and watching the snow fall every which direction. 😀

24 countdown

I’m kind of a big 24 fan, so I thought it would be cool if I added a 24 season 5 countdown to the site. It can be seen on the left sidebar. They are going to kick off the new season with a 2 day 4 hour premiere. If you remember the end of last season, Jack had to run away to Mexico, and everyone thought he was dead. It will be interesting to see whats going to happen this season, and how they are going to bring him back.

I cant wait. 🙂

Church and State

I know we’ve all heard the term “separation of church and state” but where did it come from, and what does it mean? Separation of church and state is not written anywhere in the Constitution.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

So, what does this mean to us? I think its pretty clear what is said in the Constitution. The government Cant force a religion on any of us, and they cant stop us from practicing our religion; not matter what it is.

Well in 1947 the U.S. Supreme Court wasn’t so sure if we knew what it meant, and wanted to clear it up for us. So they came up with the establishment clause.

“The ‘establishment of religion’ clause of the First Amendment means at least this: Neither a state nor the Federal Government can set up a church. Neither can pass laws which aid one religion, aid all religions, or prefer one religion over another. Neither can force nor influence a person to go to or to remain away from church against his will or force him to profess a belief or disbelief in any religion. No person can be punished for entertaining or professing religious beliefs or disbeliefs, for church attendance or non-attendance. No tax in any amount, large or small, can be levied to support any religious activities or institutions, whatever they may be called, or whatever from they may adopt to teach or practice religion. Neither a state nor the Federal Government can, openly or secretly, participate in the affairs of any religious organizations or groups and vice versa. In the words of Jefferson, the clause against establishment of religion by law was intended to erect ‘a wall of separation between Church and State’.”

So, this basically says what I stated above, but in a lot more words. But then comes the part “a wall of separation between Church and State.” This is what everybody talks about, and forgets about the rest of the clause. If we forget about the part that says “wall of separation…” Where does it say that kids and or teachers cant pray at school? Where does it say that we can not post the 10 commandments on public property? Etc.

Now, the whole reason they wrote the things about religion in the constitution, is because they didn’t want the U.S to go through the same things that England, Russia, and others went through in the past; where the government was run by “the church”. The people had no freedoms and therefore civil wars started.

If we now include the part “wall of separation…” things shouldn’t really change. Websters defines separate as: “to set or keep apart”. To me, this means that you have two or more things that are kept apart; you still have both, and use both, but are kept apart. Ex. I have two arms, and I use both. With separation of left and right, I can still use both arms, but they are separated by my body. If we go by peoples thinking of separation of church and state, I still have both arms, but they don’t want me to use both, either I can use my left, or my right. Does this make sense? I think if people really read what the Constitution says they will come to the same understanding.
