So you are looking for a flexible flash/macro flash bracket? You came to the right place. Or how about a flexible reflector holder? Why spend $40-$70 for one of these Flash Brackets that uses the same parts? Or $45-$50 for one of these Reflector/misc holders?

All the Flexible parts you need can be found at ModularHose.com and I will provide a list of the parts you will need. There are two sizes that you can use to build the arm: 1/2″ and 3/4″. For the setup I made, I used the 1/2″ fittings at 6 beads long, but It didn’t seem strong enough to hold my Pentax 540 flash(380 g) so I moved to 3/4″. If your flash weights around 380 grams or more I suggest you use the 3/4″ system. If you are using a smaller slave type flash, you should be able to use the 1/2″ system.

In order to connect your camera to your off camera flash you will need a sync cable or something similar, or you can do it wirelessly if your camera and flash support it. I do it both ways.

Parts needed for flex arm:
Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ System Segment 2 pack
Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Double Female Socket 4 pack(You only need 1)
Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Fixed Mount 2 pack

Total price:
1/2 inch = $15.49 + S&H
3/4 inch = $19.42 + S&H

Other parts you need or have:
A bracket like this or some other type of flat metal you have around the house. If not $8.95.
A tripod to hot shoe adapter like this. You might already have one of these. If not $3.89
1/4-20 bolts and 1/4-20 wing nuts. Any real man would already have these.
Epoxy Glue $2.50 (I used 2 ton 30min epoxy)

For the flexible reflector holder you will need 2 spring clamps. You can find these at any hardware store. You can get a pack of 16 for under $5 bucks at your local Harbor Freight Tools store.

Total price = $30.83 – 34.76

Ok. Lets put it all together.
One thing to know. You only need 1 Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Double Female Socket, but they come in a pack of 4. So you might want to get with a few buddies and split the cost, or build 4. One for your camera and 3 for slave flashes or Reflector holders.

Step 1: Make sure your bolts are the right length. It will depend on the thickness of your bracket and your hot shoe adapter. Mix your epoxy and glue your blots through the hole in Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Fixed Mount. Wait for epoxy to cure. While you are waiting move on to the next steps.

Step 2: Assemble your Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ System Segments. You might only want to use one segment, but if you choose to make it a little longer you can bend the other segment until it snaps apart and add the length to the other.

Step 3: Add a Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Double Female Socket to the end of your segment length. It will only fit on one side.

Step 4: Only after your epoxy has cured, you can snap the Loc-Line 1/2″ or 3/4″ Fixed Mount onto both ends of your segment.

Step 5: Bolt on your bracket, and hot shoe adapter. (Pictured with 12 beads, though I only use 6 beads. 12 is a little too long.)

Step 5-I: To make an off camera flash, replace the bracket with a spring clamp. To make a reflector holder replace both ends with spring clamps. You can drill a 1/4 hole in the clamps, and bolt these on.

Step 5-II: Other option. Bolt the arm to your cameras tripod mount.
