I need to rant about the UAW again. You can find part 1 of “Do unions hurt America?” here.
What is the job of the union? As I see it, its job is to keep the workers from getting taken advantage of. At least that’s what they started out doing. So the power of people being united aka the union, can get them the things they want. But the union has grown so big over the years, that they need people to control it, and make sure things are running smooth. This is why union workers have to pay union dues. This money pays for the staff of the union, and also pays for other union expenses. Now, if I were a union worker I would want my dues to be used only for union expenses. I should only have to pay dues for an amount of money that is needed, and nothing more. It is really a union tax, but they don’t call it that, because tax is a nasty word. So why is it that the UAW can sponsor a huge NASCAR race every year, that cost millions of dollars. That can’t find a better use for the union tax? Other companies sponsor these NASCAR races, and use them as a really really big advertisement. The union has no reason to advertise. The only way for the UAW to make any money is for the workers to pay dues; and the only way people can become a UAW worker is if they work for a automobile manufacture that’s uses UAW workers. The UAW is getting to much money from its union workers if they are able to sponsor this type of event. Which in turn cost the automobile manufactures money, because they are the ones in the long run who are paying for it. So do unions hurt America?
